Bio - Jon Saline
Jon was born in 1980 and has spent most of his early life on a farm in Snowflake Arizona. He has been turning wood since 1994 when his friend and high school woodshop teacher Bob Caldwell first introduced him to the lathe. Jon enjoyed woodshop in general but it was the lathe that provided the most creativity and intrigue. From the very beginning Jon’s parents were more than supportive of his turning hobby. In 1997 Jon briefly studied woodturning under Rex Burningham who has become a friend and mentor of sorts. Since that time Jon has continued to learn and grow as a turner. Jon has made many bowls, vases, pens, and other projects—no two alike—over the years. His work has appeared in several galleries and exhibitions across the country. His philosophy is that each piece should provide a new challenge whether in technique or design, and should excite the mind of the observer when complete. Jon feels greatly influenced by the designs and forms of ancient cultures as well as the work of other contemporary turners. Aside from turning, Jon has spent two years in California as a missionary for his church, a summer interning in Washington D.C., and has graduated from both Eastern Arizona College and Brigham Young University with Associate and Bachelor degrees in political science. He is currently attending ASU's Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law, is married to his wonderful wife Malori Jo, and is loving life.
